Fort DeSoto Campground Pinellas County Florida

We arrived at Fort DeSoto Park Campground in Tierra Verde (Pinellas County) Florida on 9 Jan 2024. Our reservation was to arrive on 8 Jan, but we ended up staying overnight at the General RV Service Center in Dover (Tampa). We had driven there for a 9am appointment on the 8th, but it took all day to get four wheel bearings replaced and adding a second battery. A case/housing had to be fabricated for the second battery and that took a lot of time. They were done around 6pm, and we opted to stay there overnight. We don't like arriving at a campground in the dark and we had seen a YouTube video of Fort DeSoto Campground and it is beautiful, but tight to maneuver in. General RV in Dover Florida has electric/water sites for overnight stays.

We drove to Fort DeSoto Campground early in the morning on Jan 9th and were settled in our site by around 10am. We haven't had much experience with county campgrounds, but this one is fantastic! It's huge and they have thought of everything! We're never far from a restroom, there is a nice bike path from one end of the park to the other, there was a bike service station when we took a bike ride, there's a fenced-in dog park, there are two fishing piers, the beach is on one end of the park, and the bay is on the other and finally, there are so many birds! We've really enjoyed our time here. We took our bikes out for a couple of hours ride one day. We walked around the park most days and saw that parakeets are here too! Steve went fishing a couple of times, but only got one keeper. Our outings here were sometimes in misty rain, cool temps and mostly cloudy weather. We both got head colds while we were here. It was bound to happen with the weather and crossing paths with other people who were sick in our travels. The colds only lasted a couple of days and didn't keep us from doing what we wanted. Being outside really helped. We also walked through Fort DeSoto one day.

Steve is celebrating a birthday today. We'll be going to a sports bar/restaurant in St. Petersburg to watch NFL playoffs and have dinner. We'll be heading to Melbourne Beach Florida tomorrow

(15 Jan). That'll be another county campground, and it's got big shoes to fill.

Our campsite (#233) at Fort DeSoto Campground

(In our walks, we saw that Site #168 would be ideal)
