Jordan Lake State Recreation Area (Apex North Carolina)

We arrived at Jordan Lake State Recreation Area in Apex North Carolina on 11 Nov 2023 for two nights. That was Veteran's Day and we had heard about a few freebies for veterans at various restaurants. We opted for Applebee's in the town next to Apex, Fuquay-Varina (near Raleigh). They had a nice selection of free entrees for veterans and gave a $5 gift card for a future visit to Applebee's. We've never done that for Veteran's Day before, but it was interesting to see so many veterans at the restaurant when we were there. Anita felt like she's been missing out on something a lot of other veterans enjoy!

We were tired from all the 2 and 3 night stays in the northeast states leaf-peeping, so we enjoyed a break just hanging out at the campsite with a fire most of the time. We enjoyed this state park. There were many trails for walking and it was just inviting to stay within the park where it was peaceful and quiet. The traffic was bad outside the park. We had spoken to locals the first night we arrived (at Applebee's) and they said that since COVID, building of houses has exploded and there still isn't enough inventory for all who want to move there. The roads have not been expanded to accomodate all that.
