Lake Eufaula in Oklahoma

Our time in Oklahoma seems to have gone by fast! We arrived on Monday 15 April 2024 and here we are on Friday the 19th getting ready to head out tomorrow. An Army Core of Engineers Campground, Brooken Cove has been peaceful and beautiful with lots of birds and water. We learned that the Scissortail Flycatcher is OK's state bird, and we've seen them a many times right from our campsite! Cedar Waxwings have also flown in flocks over us while we were out enjoying a campfire.

We went out sight seeing on our first day after arriving to check out fishing spots. We were told about Belle Starr Marina and Crowder Point for good dock/shore fishing. We got up early yesterday and made it out for Steve to be fishing by 8am. He had his best day fishing yet since we've been on the road! It was heart warming to see Steve catching a fish every time Anita looked up from her book. Steve caught over 50 Crappies and white bass and kept 25 and one flathead catfish keeper! What a great day!

Another day while we were here, we went to McAlester Oklahoma which is about 30 miles south of our campground. It turned out to be difficult to find the visitor center or really anyone to tell us about the historical town. We finally learned about Old Town McAlester, which was OK. We took a few pictures there, but the day of fishing was definitely the best day of our stay in Oklahoma. Lake Eufaula is one of the top 10 places for Crappie fishing and we're certainly believers!

We had lots of time to relax and we had a couple of campfires. Today Steve hand washed our truck and camper, and Anita did a deep cleaning inside the truck. This evening, we're going out for dinner at Dobber's Roadhouse, recommended by a local. So all in all, it's been a great few days here. Tomorrow, we're heading to the Ozark National Riverways in Missouri.
