Leaf Peeping in Vermont

We arrived in Dorset Vermont on 20 Oct 2023 for three nights. That gave us two full days to site see, but the weather was rainy and cool, so we opted for mostly driving scenic byways in the area. The main scenic highway we took was called Kancamagus Highway - White Mountains. We were staying at Dorset RV Park and it had free roaming chickens. The campground offered free fresh brown eggs, which were in a basket on the front porch of the office. The campground also offered apple cider donuts and coffee on Saturday and Sunday mornings. We didn't partake of any of the free offerings, but we would stay at this place again just for the ambience of the campground being spacious and friendly. This part of Vermont was near its peak leaf colors and past the peak in some spots. We were in awe of the beauty as we drove and we took some pictures, but they just don't do justice to what we were seeing.

On Sunday 22 October, we stumbled upon the President Calvin Coolidge museum in Plymouth Notch VT. Well, we had read in one of the visitor center pamphlets about it, but we were pleasantly surprised to see it as we were driving. It was open, and it looked to be mostly inside, so we stopped and ended up taking the walking tour of the grounds. It was windy and cold with a light mist that day, so we appreciated the stops inside the buildings. We, especially Anita was reminded that President Coolidge became president when President Harding died. The house where Calvin Coolidge was sworn in in the middle of the night is at this location. Coolidge's father swore him in. The father was a notary public and justice of the peace. After Calvin Coolidge returned to DC, he was again sworn in by Chief Justice William H. Taft on his inauguration day.

We could use Calvin Coolidge today. He balanced the budget and cut taxes. He believed people should keep more of the money they worked for instead of the government taking it. Sounds good!
