Our First ACOE Campground Bainbridge Georgia

We arrived at our first Army Corps of Engineers Campground 16 Nov 2023 and we were there for four nights. We had an over 450 mile drive to get there and we pulled in shortly after sunset in the dark. It was only 5:45pm, but dark. We awoke to a beautiful view of the lake on our first morning there. We met our neighbors on both sides. Glenn and Terri were on one side with their daughter Theresa and her husband Steve on the other side of them. They had another couple traveling with them across the street. The Friday night they invited us over for a freshly caught catfish dinner. Glenn (he said his friends call him Uncle Glenn) and his grandkids were fishing alot and caught much more fish than the 12 of them (including kids) could eat. We went over for dinner and had a nice time getting to know them and just enjoying the fellowship.

On the Saturday night we invited Uncle Glenn and his gang over for S'mores. We had a campfire and the makings for s'mores, and our neighbors on the other side, Dave and Jill came over. Uncle Glenn and his gang had gone out for dinner and went in early for an early departure on Sunday, so they didn't come over. Dave and Jill are fellow full time travelers! They're the first couple we've met who are like us and travel all over the US staying for a couple of weeks and then moving on. They also sold their house in Georgia. Dave and Jill have a Grand Design Reflection 5th wheel like we do, with a RAM 3500 diesel truck like we do. Their camper and truck are bigger than ours, but we have alot in common with their lifestyle. It was alot of fun getting to know them and we all hope to cross paths again. We've kicked ourselves for not getting a picture of Dave and Jill.

When we arrived at the campground, we were told that it's on the line of Central and Eastern timezones, so our phones would go back and forth. They operate on Eastern time. We were also located right on the border between Georgia and Florida, so we walked to Florida one morning.

We drove to Jacksonville Florida on 20 Nov 2023. We drove to General RV Service in Jacksonville for their "Keep You Camping" program which allows you to drive in and get an assessment of the problem without an appointment. We arrived around noon and they got our slide out problem repaired by 5:30pm. They allowed us to stay parked there for the night and even let us plug in to their power and water. The problem with our slide out was the wiring harness, so they replaced that.

We'll be at NAS Mayport in northeast Jacksonville from 21 Nov - 21 Dec. When we checked in to Pelican Roost Campground at NAS Mayport, they invited us to sign up for the potluck being held in the clubhouse the next day (22nd), so we signed up to bring mashed potatoes and gravy. On Thanksgiving Day, the Oasis Galley on base is open to all on base including the campground for a Thanksgiving meal. Cost is $11.20!
